Best kids gardening tools

Planning to include your kids in the garden, but not sure where to start? I’m sharing the best kids gardening tools to make your little ones fall in love with the garden!

Does anybody else have a toddler with an incredibly limited food palate? If my little one could live off of smoothies, chicken nuggets, and nachos, then she would. (Oh wait, she basically does haha.) When Ben and I decided to start a homestead, our main goal was to live a healthier lifestyle. The idea of knowing exactly where our food came from was appealing, which led to our decision to grow as much food as possible. Although our toddler isn’t the biggest fan of veggies these days, I’m hopeful that constant exposure to gardening will lead to a veggie-obsessed girl one day. In order to make our little ones love gardening as much as we do, we’ve invested in the best kids gardening tools. (in my humble opinion ;))

To be completely honest, our gardening efforts have been majorly blah this year. We started off strong about a month ago when we planted our seedlings under a grow light in the basement. A few personal transitions happened in the past few weeks, which resulted in us completely forgetting about our poor seedlings. We hoped to transplant our seedlings to our raised garden beds by now. Unfortunately, nonstop rain and storms put a wrench in our plans. Although we’re starting the garden a bit late this year, I’m hopeful that waiting will pay off in the end.

Potting Bench

Potting Bench: Our potting bench is hands down my favorite item on my best kids gardening tools list. If you follow me on Instagram, then you might have seen that Ben built Finley a potting bench for her birthday. Ben started the design and building process with literally zero plans … but the end result turned out absolutely amazing. I’m loving the idea of gifts that emphasize the experience rather than the gift itself. Ben and Finley spent the evening planting and watering flowers together and needless to say, she loved every second of it! I’m so excited that she’ll have a “job” in the garden by tending to her own flowers. I’m planning to swap out the flowers for some fresh herbs at some point as well. (and maybe she’ll actually be inclined to eat some of them?!)

Seeing as Ben custom built the potting bench, it’s obviously not available to purchase (but maybe we’ll sell them in the future). If you’re looking to purchase something similar for your toddler, then check out this one.

Gardening Set: I bought a darling Hearth & Hand gardening set for Finley’s Easter basket this year, but it’s unfortunately sold out. This gardening set is a bit different, but it’s still absolutely adorable. Plus, it’s a great starter kit with a bag, gardening tools, and a watering can!

Gardening Bag: This bag isn’t technically meant for gardening, but it’s the perfect tote to carry around gardening tools.

Gardening Tools: These gardening tools are perfect for little ones working at a potting bench. I’m loving these larger gardening tools for working around a larger outdoor garden (perfect for working in our raised garden beds!)

Gloves: I love having a couple pairs of little gardening gloves available throughout the house. One pair is always dirty, so it’s nice to have an extra pair available for last minute gardening activities.

Watering Can: I’m loving the bright colors available in this little watering can. Perfect for little ones!

Pots: We used simple terracotta pots to insert into Finley’s potting bench. To make the pots a little more fun and customizable, you can also spray paint them with your little one’s favorite colors!

Wheelbarrow: I wasn’t able to find the exact kids wheelbarrow we have online, but this one would be perfect for kiddos!
