About Frenchie Farm

Frenchie Farm is a small regenerative farm located in the western Chicago suburbs in Illinois. Nigerian Dwarf goats for sale: why purchase from Frenchie Farm?

Considering the fact that one can find goats for sale in many areas, what makes Frenchie Farm, located in Illinois, different than other farms? Frenchie Farm has maintained a closed, clean tested herd since 2019. Our goats have tested negative for Johne’s, Caseous Lymphadenitis (CL) and CAE/OPP. All goats are disbudded (if not born polled), and interact socially with the 100+ children enrolled in classes at Frenchie Farm each week. Because kids are dam raised, pending emergency situations, they are not weaned/ready for their new home until 12 weeks of age.

Either myself or my children hand milk does, and all does are bred specifically for ease of milking and milk production. Colleen trains all does appropriate milking behavior on the milk stand. When purchasing goats from Frenchie Farm, you also have access to Colleen as a mentor. Whether you have basic Nigerian Dwarf goat care questions, need help brainstorming ideas for appropriate housing and fencing, or need support building a starter herd for home dairy purposes, Colleen helps set you up for success.

You can raise dairy goats on limited acreage.

When we started our homestead, we were limited to 1.25 acres, but we still had multiple pastures, 7 goats (including bucks!), and 20 chickens.

While it takes a bit more creativity to appropriately rotate/let pastures rest for parasite management, it’s definitely possible to raise dairy goats, even with limited space. Maybe that dream of real goat milk isn’t too far away after all 😉

Drop your questions for raising dairy goats below, and if you’re local to the Chicago area and looking to start your own herd - then let me help! 👇🏻

Here’s the truth about real milk and pregnancy 👇🏻

Nope, there’s nothing inherently “dangerous” about real milk in itself. The potential risks originate from appropriate udder cleaning, disinfecting equipment, and milk processing procedures.

It’s simple. Contaminated milk = UNSAFE milk.

If you’re consuming milk from a farm that appropriately cleans udders (including a pre-wash + iodine pre/post dip), thoroughly disinfects all equipment to eliminate the risk of equipment contamination, + rapidly chills milk, then your “risk” significantly decreases.

Personally, if I wasn’t the one milking start to finish, then I would also want the farm to routinely test their milk, too. We want healthy + happy cows, friends.

Pregnant or not - who’s enjoying that real milk?!
